Maduwanwela walawwa is historical place located in sri lanka.It is a manor house lacated in Rathnapura district. Situated in the town of kolonne. A distance of 207km from colombo. You can reachable easy in to Maduwanwela walawwa via Embilipitiya along Panamura- kolonne main road.( only 27 km). And also you can reachable to "Maduwanwela Walawwa" via pallepeddha-Buluthota. That road is very important and easy way. When you coming this way you can visit another beautiful placses. Such as , waulpena hunugal guhawa, Sinharaja rain forest. You can turning off at Madampe junction deviation to Rakwana-Kolonna across Buluthota pass to 11 km, you met walawwa. These all the roads has transport facility.
My memory goes back to late few years when I was a A/L student. I visited Mduwanwela walawwa to get ainformation and some photographs in threre. It was a good experience and enjoyble day to me.
You firstly go across the main granit entrance. There has two stone walls with beautiful and attractive flora coveragings on other side . But vehicles cannot drive through the entrance. Afterenter you must walking along the beautiful road and can see the niceful and calm environment sourounding.
After you meet another archwaysto enter to Walawwa. This archways create special way. For it has some historical story. Enter to the walawwa you can see the three walls had protected the walawwa.
I would like to write some historical and present information about Maduwanwela walawwa.
Maduwanwela Walawwa built by Maduwanwela Maha Mohottala in the 1700s, and final expansion was undertakenbyMaduwanwela Maha Disawe. During 1877- 1905 period,the Walawwahad been 121 rooms, 21 inner compounds.(meda midula). and big land surrounding it. But present time there are on 43 rooms left and inner compunds has only five. There are located courthouse . It is very essantial to that time. You can see furniture and equiment used for punishments in that period in the courthouse. You can see the "pirith mandapaya" inside the walawwa. Its floor set in vibrant mosaic of crushed ceramic desian of floral pattered and elepents.(in the past period it had been set gems but noe a days it is lost).
There had used most valuble kind of woods. When you visit "Burutha maligawa" you can understand it better. Not only but also you can see the most of the historical things and places at here.
In the present time the owner of Walawwa is Department of Archaeology of Sri lanka. And protecting it under the that department.
Most of the tourists,students and others are coming to visit that place today. Because it is located at beautiful place and it has good climate. And also all the people can visit freely in here without destroy anything. It is a most popular place in Sri Lanka.
